The Society was established in 1984 as a not-for-profit organisation to collect, preserve and operate a representative fleet of NSW Government Railways rail motors. The Society's collection of rolling stock, was listed on the NSW State Heritage Register in 2002. The heritage listed collection of eleven (11) rail motors includes Rail Motor No.3, the oldest surviving and operating rail motor in NSW, the only operating 400 Class rail motor and the only three surviving 600/700 Class rail motors still in their original 1949 condition.

In addition to our own heritage listed collection, the Society also manages 620 Class 2-car diesel train NPF 621 and NTC 721 and shunting locomotive 7344 under custody agreements from Transport Heritage NSW. These rolling stock items are part of RailCorp's core heritage fleet and are also listed on the State Heritage Register.

We're committed to connecting the community with the State's railway heritage and history through our rolling stock management, our tourist operations and ourparticipation in rail events across NSW. Whether restoring a historic rail motor or helping the community to understand how rail transport in NSW has evolved since its humble beginnings in 1855 creates greater appreciation for what we have today. Every contribution helps bring our rail heritage to life.

Your support is greatly appreciated by the Society's team, as well as those who share our passion for preserving and sharing Australian history.

The Society is endorsed by the Australian Tax Office and the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission as a Deuctible Gift Recipient. This means that donations of $2 or more made to the Society are tax deductible.
