Built by Perry Engineering in Adelaide, Perry No.7 was the last steam locomotive constructed for the North Eaton Sugar Mill in 1952. Designed for the demanding conditions of the sugar industry, it represents the pinnacle of Australian narrow-gauge industrial steam power. Today, the locomotive has been meticulously restored and now operates at the Lake Macquarie Light Railway, preserving an important piece of Australia’s industrial railway history.
Built in 1908 by Krauss, “Jack” is a compact 0-4-0 tank locomotive that once worked on the Goondah–Burrinjuck Railway. After its working life, it became an exhibit in the NSW Rail Transport Museum before later being leased to the Lake Macquarie Light Railway, where it now operates. Despite its small size, Jack is a powerful and lively locomotive, and its distinctive exhaust beat and whistle have become a favourite part of the railway experience.

A chartered bus will transport visitors from Maitland and Newcastle to the Lake Macquarie Light Railway.
Departure Times:
Maitland Station – 8:00am
Broadmeadow – 8:45am
Cardiff – 9:00am
The bus will return from Lake Macquarie Light Railway at 2:45pm, connecting with return trains to Sydney and Maitland.
Travel on the 7:21am Intercity Service from Sydney to Fassifern, arriving at 9:28am.
You will be met at Fassifern Station by the chartered bus and transferred to the railway.
Return bus departs the railway at 2:45pm to meet the 3:22pm train from Fassifern to Sydney.
Rail travel to Fassifern is at your own expense.
